Heal It Right

AFTERCARE

Follow these steps closely for the first few weeks to help your new tattoo heal cleanly and keep its detail.

1

Leave the wrap on

Keep the original bandage on for the time your artist tells you — usually 2–4 hours, sometimes overnight for a second-skin wrap. Don't peek early.

2

Wash gently

Remove the wrap and wash with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, antibacterial soap. Use clean hands only — no washcloths or loofahs. Pat dry with a clean paper towel; don't rub.

3

Moisturize lightly

Once dry, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion or the aftercare product your artist recommends. A thin sheen is enough — over-moisturizing can suffocate the skin and trap bacteria.

4

Repeat 2–3 times a day

Wash and moisturize gently, 2–3 times daily, for about 2 weeks or until fully healed. Always wash hands before touching the area.

5

Let it peel and flake naturally

Your tattoo will scab lightly and peel like a sunburn around days 4–10. Never pick, scratch, or force flakes off — let them come off on their own to protect the ink.

6

Avoid soaking and direct sun

No pools, hot tubs, baths, or ocean swimming until fully healed (about 2–3 weeks). Keep it out of direct sunlight, and once healed, always use SPF 30+ to protect the color and detail long-term.

7

Wear loose, clean clothing

Keep tight or rough fabric off the area while it heals, and sleep on clean sheets. Avoid gym sessions or sweat-heavy activity for about a week.

8

Watch for real warning signs

Some redness and mild swelling is normal for a few days. Spreading redness, heat, pus, fever, or pain that gets worse after day 3–4 is not — contact us or a doctor right away.

This is general guidance — always follow the specific instructions your artist gives you at your appointment, since they may vary by placement and technique.
